The Facts
Let us help you manage your occupational road risk
It has beed proven that driving as part of the job is the most dangerous work-related activity performed by most employees in the UK. Solo(uk) and Inspire are working to improve our road safety performance.
We have developed our training program to work with your company's needs.
- HSE have now made it quite clear in new
guidance that employers have duties under
health and safety law to assess these risks
and take ‘reasonably practicable’ measures
to ensure ‘safe systems of work‘.
- Companies which take action to promote
the safety of their staff while driving will
achieve major cost savings, improve their
image (a company’s drivers are its
ambassadors on the road!) and make a
significant contribution to meeting UK road
safety targets.
- Other benefits include:
- Employees spend less time off work due to accidents
- Reduced stress levels, not only in their vehicle, but at work too
- The driver is able to anticipate and control situations to reduce accident risks
- It is estimated that a third of all accidents in the UK involve someone driving for work
- 9 out of 10 accidents are caused by human error
- Over a typical driving career, 1 male driver in 300 will be killed while driving a car
- 1 in 5 private car users make an insurance claim every year! Those that drive for work purposes is as high as 1 in 3!
- Drivers who cover more than 80% of their annual mileage on work related journeys have about 53% more crashes
- Motorists who undertake some form of advanced driving can reduce their accident rate by 75%
- Car and van drivers who cover 25,000 miles a
year as part of their job are likely to be at
almost the same risk of being killed at work
as those working in mining and quarrying
- Out of a total of around 3,500 road accident
fatalities every year, it has been estimated
that between 800 and 1,000 occur in
accidents which involve people who are at
work at the time.
